The mid-face lift is a surgical procedure which rejuvenates the mid-portion of the face, creating a more youthful and refreshed appearance. During surgery, the mid-face region is lifted one to two inches, thereby removing sagging of the facial skin commonly resulting from age or weight loss. The cheeks are lifted and smile lines (nasolabial folds) and puffiness under the eyes are improved.
You may be a candidate for a midface lift if you are physically healthy and have realistic expectations for improving sagging facial skin in the midface region. This procedure can be ideal for younger patients who are not yet ready for a full facelift. While the midface lift is often performed as a stand-alone procedure, it can also be combined with other procedures such as eyelid surgery or cheek augmentation.
Dr. Manchester performs the midface lift at his clinic in San Diego, California, using general anesthesia. Surgical times average one to two hours. The incisions made for the midface lift are small and are hidden within the eyelids or inside of the mouth. Working through the incisions, the tissues of the mid-face are elevated approximately one to two inches and held in place with a special device which is absorbed by the body after six months.
You may experience some minor discomfort following your midface lift and this can be alleviated with medication. Swelling and bruising may occur and the majority of swelling should resolve within ten to seventeen days. Skin sutures are removed within five days. You will likely be able to return to work within five to seven days after your surgery.
